The “Soggiorno Acqua Rio” is located in Chioggia, the most important fishing centre in the North of Italy and ‘little sister’ of Venice, with its narrow streets (called calli) and its canals crossed by numerous bridges. It is in fact from the water and the canals that our “Soggiorno” derives its name: the water is that of the Venetian Lagoon and the “ Rio ” is the so-called St Domenico’s canal which draws its name from the artistic church that appears at its farthest end where canal, lagoon and sea join in a single sheet of water. The Venetian red colour of the small, recently restored 18th century palace, stands out among the dominant grey colour of the other buildings which stand on the wide bank.
The large fishing boats that moor here coming from the sea, escorted by the flight of seagulls and surrounded by cormorants which fish in the water, make the place one of the most picturesque in the town.
All of these can be quietly admired from the two small wrought iron balconies of the first-floor room and from the windows with the typical brown painted wooden shutters (scuri) of the other two storeys above.
